IPL Hair Removal

Excess body and facial hair can be an unsightly and embarrassing problem. Shaving, plucking, waxing and depilatory creams provide temporary fixes that are inconvenient, irritating, messy and only temporary. Electrolysis is time consuming, sometimes painful, and is useful only in removing hair from small areas. Excess hair is a common problem. Women frequently experience this condition on the face, especially the upper lip or eyebrow area, in the bikini area, under the arms or on the legs. Men often wish to rid themselves of hair on their back or chest. They too may have unwanted hair between their eyebrows or on other parts of their face.

The Island Cosmetic Clinic is pleased to offer the most advanced IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) from Lumenis, the world leader and pioneer in laser and light based technology from the USA. IPL offers a gentle non-invasive, long-lasting solution to unwanted hair that has been proven to create a permanent reduction in the number of regrowing hairs following each treatment in most skin types.

How does IPL remove hair?
Highly controlled flashes of light are selectively absorbed by hair follicles lying below the surface of the skin. The absorbed light heats the hair, which damages or destroys the regrowth potential of the follicle. All without damaging the surrounding tissue.

IPL

What happens during treatment?
Your treatment begins by trimming away the hair above the skin. You will be asked to wear glasses to protect your eyes from the bright light. A cold gel may be applied over the treatment area. The IPL handpiece is then applied to your skin and pulses of light begins disabling your unwanted hair. When the gel is removed much of the hair is wiped off with it. The remaining hair in the treated area falls out over the next week or two.

What does the Treatment feel like?
Each pulse of light feels like a slight sting or pinch similar to the snap of an elastic band. No local anaesthesia is required and most people tolerate the treatment well.

Is IPL safe for all skin types?
IPL is the first photoepilation procedure proven to effectively treat unwanted hair on all skin types. You will have a detailed discussion at your consultation.

IPL Skin Treatments

Help restore the skin’s youthful look
It's nearly impossible to get through life without unsightly veins, blood vessels, age spots, and freckles. They are a problem for millions of men and women worldwide. Both the pleasures and stresses of life, along with the simple passage of time tend to cause our skin to appear older. The signs of photo aging and sun damage are typically most visible on the face and body.

Photorejuvenation
Photorejuvenation using Intense Pulsed LightTM (IPL) is a non-invasive treatment that treats sun damage without disruption of the skins surface, meaning no down time. Intense Pulsed Light IPL can simultaneously treat a wide range of facial concerns safely and effectively, such as broken capillaries, facial redness, benign brown pigment, age spots, sun induced freckles and mottled pigmentation.

The Island Cosmetic Clinics IPL from Lumenis is the gold standard for photorejuvenation. Lumenis (USA) is the world leader and pioneer in laser and light based technology. This FDA-cleared, patented technology provides dramatic results for a variety of benign conditions, including age spots, sun-induced freckles, and symptoms of rosacea, unsightly veins, and other blemishes

What happens during treatment?
A cold gel is applied to the area and you will be given glasses to protect your eyes from the bright light. The smooth glass surface of the IPL handpiece is gently applied to your skin and pulses of light are applied.

IPL Skin treatment

What does it feel like?
You may feel a slight sting like a snapping of a small rubber band. An anaesthetic cream may be used although is seldom required.

How do other treatments compare to IPL Photorejuvenation?

While there are different lasers that treat redness and broken capillaries, benign brown pigments and skin resurfacing, no other technology provides the long-term improvement of the complexion and texture of the skin like the IPL. This is achieved without the slightest interruption to your busy lifestyle.
